Opening Night: Happy 20th NANiversary!
Friday, October 5, 8pm

Celebrating Music Director and Conductor Nan Washburn’s 20th season with the Michigan Phil, this concert is a sampling of some of her favorite pieces from Barber to Hindemith.

Violinist Danielle Belen, Sphinx Competition winner and virtuoso, brings her passionate energy to Barber’s Violin Concerto while Wael Binali draws from his international heritage and social conscious for his composition, Earth, Plunder, Wound, Renewal, Hope–written for the UN Climate Change Conference in 2012. Hindemith’s triumphant Symphonic Metamorphosis packs a big punch, featuring lots of percussion and brass filling the hall, as well as the listener, with true joy.

JOIN US FOR A SPECIAL POST-CONCERT CELEBRATION TO HONOR
MUSIC DIRECTOR AND CONDUCTOR NAN WASHBURN!

In A Winter Garden
Friday, November 30, 8pm

Embark on an introspective musical journey, navigating the duality of darkness and light with one of the most renowned chorale composers of our time, Libby Larsen. In a Winter Garden brings together orchestra, chorus and soloists sharing a musical reflection on Advent and all its various moods and themes. This reflective concert includes the extraordinarily beautiful Pie Jesu by Lili Boulanger, and Vaughan Williams’s Christmas and Fantasia on Greensleeves, both bringing an English flair to the music of Advent season.
